Armed Robbery To Enhance your Safety During Hold Up- CALM – Remain calm, Mentally tell yourself to ‘BE CALM'
- OBEY – Listen carefully. Do exactly what you are told. Keep your hands in sight of the offender. Take no action to endanger yourself & others.
- PICTURE – Identify the suspects and thieves when it's safe to do so
- SAFEGUARD – Secure all evidence left at the scene by the offenders. Be aware of places touched.
- Activate hold-up alarms when safe to do so
- Immediately activate silent alarm system if not already done.
- Secure the premises so that offender cannot return (lock all doors).
- If possible, safely observe robber(s)' means of escape or transportation and direction
- Ensure that police have been contacted – Keep line Open.
- Do not handle objects and surfaces touched by the robber(s)
- Capture and preserve CCTV images where applicable
- Notify Business/Country Security Coordinator
- Notify the BCM Manager
- Determine names and addresses of witnesses
- Immediately record physical descriptions of robber(s), vehicles, and language used clothing, etc.
- Unless authorized, avoid talking to the press.
DO's
Identify an ATM with maximum natural surveillance and visibility from the surrounding area.
- Select an ATM that is in a well-lighted location at night.
- Where possible, select an ATM that is monitored or patrolled by a security officer.
- Shield the ATM keypad from anyone who may standing or parked nearby or anyone crowding you in an attempt to view your PIN or transaction
- Destroy your credit/debit card receipts before discarding them
- DO NOT use an ATM machine if you notice anything unusual indicating it may have been tampered with.
- AVOID using the ATM if there are any suspicious – looking individuals around.
- NEVER accept offers of assistance with the ATM card from strangers including security guards, even if you are experiencing difficulty with the transaction.
- DO NOT let anyone see you enter you PIN.
- DO NOT be in a hurry during the transaction, and carefully secure your card and cash in your wallet, handbag or pocket before leaving the ATM machine.
- Walk purposefully and with confidence, give the appearance that you are totally aware of your surroundings.
- Be aware of your total environment and what is going around you, Criminals tend to avoid people who have this type of demeanour.
- Perform mental exercise and think out what you would do in different crime or personal security situations
- Follow your instincts, if you feel you are in danger, respond immediately , remember that your personal safety is the first priority
- If you feel the ATM is not working normally, press the cancel key and withdraw your card and proceed to a different ATM machine.
- If your card gets jammed, retained or lost, or if you are interfered with at an ATM, report this immediately to the bank and/or police.
