2009 flagship projects

Kalahari Conservation Society – This is a one year partnership that will provide skills development and health training for women involved in the craft industry in the Okavango Delta. The program will also include the revival of the agro forestry project which will ensure that the women and the communities continue to plant the palm trees that is the main resource used for basket making. A total of 288 women will directly benefit from the program. However, the agro forestry component will have a positive impact on the entire community. This project is funded to the tune of o P 560,000.00

Mothers-For-All is an organization based in Selebi Phikwe and was established to provide women who care for orphans with an opportunity to generate income. There are currently five groups of women who produce beads and jewellery made from recycled magazines. The partnership with Barclays will provide for the replication of the current project in villages in the delta. The women will be trained in bead production, financial management, permaculture, environmental education and health and social issues around HIV/AIDS. A total of sixty women will benefit from the training. Additionally, the women who are working in the groups in Selebi Phikwe will be provided with skills training in recycled paper products in order to diversify the existing product base. A total of ninety women will benefit from this training. All the women will also receive training on environmental conservation, HIV/AIDS and financial literacy. This project will receive P 228,539.00

Barclays partners with Stepping Stones
Barclays Bank of Botswana has entered into a partnership with Stepping Stones International based in the village of Mochudi. The partnership seeks to address the development of entrepreneurial skills, employment, financial education and financial inclusion especially among the youth.

Stepping Stones International (SSI) is an organization which aims to nurture positive growth and development of orphaned and vulnerable children academically, emotionally, physically and spiritually through expression activities, sports, learning study skills, job skills training, and life skills while providing psychosocial support to the children and their families.

Barclays will, over the three years donate a total of £62769 to the project.

Barclays Mogae Scholarship
Barclays Mogae Scholarship Launch; On the 30th July 2008, BBB launched the scholarship which will benefit 25 individuals studying in different academic fields. BBB has committed P1.5 million to the scholarship.

Cancer Association of Botswana
BBB has sponsored Cancer Association of Botswana to the tune of P150, 000. The association has already started workshops to raise awareness on cancer issues.
