Barclays in the Community

Barclays Ghana believes in partnering with the communities in which we live and work to touch their lives for growth and development. The objectives for our corporate social responsibility agenda are as follows

Barclays Bank Ghana donates one percent (1%) of its pre-tax profits every year to our corporate social responsibility agenda for Ghana. For 2008 this amount is GH¢519,460.

Barclays Bank of Ghana Limited has adopted the following three areas of focus for its corporate social responsibility activities:
Health – emphasis on HIV Aids, Malaria and Guinea Worm Eradication;
Education – emphasis on Primary and Junior High School development;
Small & Medium Enterprises (SMEs) – Entrepreneurial skills development for the youth.

These three areas are also broadly in line with the Barclays Group focal areas which are Banking on Brighter Futures, Charity Begins at Work, Financial Inclusion and Looking after local communities.

The following projects/partnerships are being considered for this year.

  1. Partnership with Water Aid Ghana. Provision of portable water and sanitation education for selected districts of the Guinea Worm endemic areas in the Northern Region of Ghana.
