Background
Barclays has the largest range of card products offering in the market and holds the largest market share. Barclaycard Kenya is the credit card arm of Barclays Bank of Kenya Limited and is the oldest and largest issuer of credit cards in the country. It is divided into 2 sections:-
- Issuing Business - Deals with issuing and marketing of credit cards
- Acquiring Business - Deals with signing up and servicing of Merchant outlets
Issuing
Barclaycard has a wide portfolio of products issued under its brand: -
- Barclaycard Visa Classic
- Barclaycard Visa Gold
- Barclays Premier League card
- Barclaycard Visa Prestige
- Company Visa
- Nakumatt Visa Classic
- Nakumatt Visa Gold
Joining Criteria
To qualify for a Barclaycard, you need to:-
- Be aged over 18 yrs
- Earn a regular monthly income
- Own a bank account for over 6 months
- You do not have to bank with Barclays with exceptions of Prestige Barclaycard
- Must be a resident of Kenya
Requirements For All Products Except Company VISA
- Latest 2 months pay slips
- 3 Months certified latest bank statements
- Address confirmation document e.g. Utility Bill, Driving License, Bank Statements
- Copy of ID and PIN certificate
- If the PIN is indicated on the payslip or any other valid document, you do not have to attach the copy
- All residents of Kenya must produce a copy of ID. If the ID is lost, a police abstract and another form of Identification viz, DL or Passport should be provided
Requirements For Company VISA
- A guarantee in form of a fixed deposit equivalent to required card limit.
- A guarantee from Banker.
- Copy of IDs for company directors (new)
- Filled application form
Acquiring
Acquiring supports card issuance and usage by enabling business outlets (Merchants) to accept credit and debit cards for purchases. Kenya has about 3600 Merchant Accounts

Lost and Stolen Card(s)
Barclaycard provides a 24-hour emergency telephone number 020 2872000/222/444. It is very important that you contact us immediately you lose your card to facilitate stoppage of the Account /Card Use and re-issuing of a new card.
