Barclays has operated in Uganda for over 70 years. Barclays Bank of Uganda is a 51% subsidiary of Barclays Bank PLC. The Government of Uganda owns the remainder of the shares. Barclays Bank of Uganda is supervised by the Bank of Uganda. The Uganda Capital Markets Authority has recognised Barclays Bank of Uganda as a custodian.

Barclays Bank of Uganda launched its settlement and custody service to institutional investors in late 2000. It is currently the sole provider of such services in Uganda.
