Jamiyah Children Home

“There is nothing as rewarding as the chance to nurture children and see them thrive through the opportunities of play and exploration”Photographs of project

Jamiyah children’s home in Singapore, founded in 1993, was created to care for orphans and children from disadvantaged families, regardless of race or religion.  A residential programme for children aged six to 18; it is a cause that Barclays Capital colleagues volunteer their time to support

In November 2007, 20 colleagues organised a trip for the children to the Botanical Gardens to celebrate Hari Raya.

The children were treated to a special day, which incorporated time visiting the swan lake.  They were all given a disposable camera when they arrived at the garden and encouraged to take lots of photographs.  The volunteers made sure that the photographs were all developed on the same day so that during the lunch break the children could create
their own photo albums.  For all of the children who took part in the visit, this was the first time they had held a camera or taken a photograph.  Their individual photograph albums will help them to retain their memories from this amazing day.

The children enjoyed themselves hugely and the volunteers got a huge sense of satisfaction out of the day.  As one of our volunteers said: “There is nothing as rewarding as the chance to nurture children and see them thrive through the opportunities of play and exploration.”
