Continuing the story

Barclays will continue to support the Spaces for Sports Programme for the next three years providing £5m of funding to the 200 sites to secure their long term future and usage. A dedicated team at the Football Foundation, the programme’s partner, will ensure that sites have a wealth of practical support at their disposal.

The 200 flagship and local sites will be supported to ensure they continue to deliver their sports development plans. Alongside this the sites will be assisted through:

• Identification of national partners that can engage regionally and locally, and support the sites with ongoing funding, volunteering, development programmes and activities
• A 'tool kit' that recognises the huge variety of sites but provides generic information on funding, involving and consulting communities, developing user groups, volunteering, developing participation, working with the press, business planning, training opportunities (e.g. for working with the most marginalised) and so on
• Online tools to aid inter-site communication, sharing of best practice, positive PR and cross-programme promotion
