What we are doing

Project activities will include psychosocial and interpersonal skills training to tackle HIV and AIDS prevention, addiction to medication, and discrimination. In addition practical and technical skills training; and mentoring programmes people will be provided to support young people as they search for employment or start a business.

We’ll undertake a comprehensive assessment of the young people living in the two cities, to improve the design of the project and determine the best strategy for achieving the desired immediate and longer-term results.

Our principle partners are the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Culture; the Botswana National Youth Council and the Ministry of Education. In Francistown and Gaborone, we’ll also work with the local city councils and relevant NGOs.

We’ll encourage local Barclays employees to get involved, particularly in the mentoring programmes and various sporting, recreational and educational activities that are planned.

We’ll also develop a monitoring and evaluation plan in collaboration with the government of Botswana and our other partners, and document best practice and lessons learnt. Our long-term goals are that the project will grow and be sustainable.
