The results we’d like to see
We’re after tangible results. In particular, we want to:
-
reach at least 25 girls between the ages of 12 and 18 from each village in the target locations – some 70,000 in total – and provide them with the key skills
-
see 2,850 Strong Young Girls’ Groups formed, which support, participate in and monitor various developmental village programmes; and make sure young girls in their communities complete at least ten years of education and that their rights are fully protected
-
reach 140,000 young women through 14,250 self-help groups and provide them with key skills
-
establish a state resource centre to support the scaling-up of the project’s activities across the state, with funding from the state budget
-
pilot the new education module in around 750 schools
-
pilot a similar course for school drop-outs and children living in the slums
About the partnership
Barclays has joined forces with UNICEF to help children and young people around the world achieve a brighter future for themselves and their communities. The partnership will undertake projects in more than 10 countries and commit US$10 million in addition to employee volunteering time over three years.
The partnership aims to develop the skills of young people in the communities where Barclays operates by focusing on opportunities for education, employment, entrepreneurship and enterprise. The individual projects will help disadvantaged young people across the globe access education, find employment and start businesses.
