India

Who we are helping

While India’s economy has grown rapidly in recent years, and looks set to continue to do so, the female population of the country has largely not seen the benefits of economic development. Among other things, this puts India’s ability to achieve the United Nations’ Millennium Development Goals at risk.

Through this project, we hope to help thousands of girls and young women in the state of Maharashtra appreciate their self-worth and empower them to have prosperous and sustainable livelihoods, benefiting the whole society.

Although Maharashtra is one of India’s economically better performing states, there are still widespread disparities, especially between urban and rural areas. Project activities will take place in nine rural blocks in Chandrapur, Latur and Nandurbar; and in the slums of three wards of urban Mumbai.
