Who we are helping

More than 300,000 children and young people live on the street in Kenya, and the number grows every day because of the impact of poverty, violence, exploitation and the HIV epidemic. Street children often resort to prostitution or petty crime to survive, and unsafe sex and drug abuse are a way of life.

Through this project, we’ll help around 4,000 children and young people up to the age of 24 who are currently living on the street – or who are likely to end up there. UNICEF and Barclays Kenya have agreed to focus on three cities: Nairobi, Mombasa and Eldoret.

About the partnership

About the partnership Barclays has joined forces with UNICEF to help children and young people around the world achieve a brighter future for themselves and their communities. The partnership will undertake projects in more than 10 countries and commit US$10 million in addition to employee volunteering time over three years.

The partnership aims to develop the skills of young people in the communities where Barclays operates by focusing on opportunities for education, employment, entrepreneurship and enterprise. The individual projects will help disadvantaged young people across the globe access education, find employment and start businesses.
