Mexico

Overview

Education levels for indigenous young people in Mexico are significantly lower than those for the non-indigenous population, meaning they’re less able to find decent employment on leaving school. This project will target indigenous children and adolescents in two economically deprived regions of Mexico City.

We’ll work with parents, teachers, public authorities and local communities to create a better environment for in which indigenous young people can study: an environment that protects and respects their ethnic identities, but at the same time tackles the segregation that’s common in the school system and encourages cohesion.

About the partnership

About the partnership Barclays has joined forces with UNICEF to help children and young people around the world achieve a brighter future for themselves and their communities. The partnership will undertake projects in more than 10 countries and commit US$10 million in addition to employee volunteering time over three years.

The partnership aims to develop the skills of young people in the communities where Barclays operates by focusing on opportunities for education, employment, entrepreneurship and enterprise. The individual projects will help disadvantaged young people across the globe access education, find employment and start businesses.
