To satisfy UK and European regulations, we need to verify your identity and your main residential address. To do this, we will need to see some additional documentation with your account application.
1. Proof of your identity
Your current and valid passport, European Union country National Identity Card or Gibraltar ID card is usually sufficient.
If you are visiting a Barclays branch, please take one of these documents with you.
If you’re not able to visit a Barclays branch in person, you will need to have a copy of the original documentation “certified”.
How to “certify” copies of documents
Copies of documents must be certified by writing the following words on the copy of the document:
"Having seen the individual and the identification document at the same time, I can certify that this is a true copy and the photograph is a reasonable likeness".
The person certifying the documents should then sign the certificate and add their full name, title and the date they certified the document, in English. Please follow the instructions on our certification template to help you complete this process and prevent delays in your application.
Who can certify a document?
The following people can certify a full passport:
2. Proof of your Principal Residential Address
Please supply TWO of the following. Each must clearly show your name(s) and principal residential address:
You may provide either an original document or a certified copy.
** These documents should be no more than 3 months old.
