Broadcasting
The British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) and the Independent Television Commission (ITC) control terrestrial television transmissions. The BBC is financed by public funds whilst the ITC is funded by advertising.

The BBC operates a number of national radio channels, numerous local radio channels, digital radio channels, two terrestrial television channels and a growing number of television channels available via satellite and cable.

The BBC also provides some very useful online services.

Newspapers
Major national broadsheets include The Times, The Daily Telegraph, The Guardian and The Independent, whilst The Mirror, The Sun and the Daily Express are popular tabloid newspapers.

Most areas also have a local evening and/or local paper.

Culture and Sport
Almost all major UK cities are well-equipped with cultural, sporting and leisure activities. Larger UK cities will have dedicated magazines such as City Life in Manchester, The Buz in Liverpool and Time Out in London. However, if these are not available you'll generally find What's On guides in the local press.
