Here you'll find information on train, plane, bus and car travel around the UK.

Trains
Timetables and fare information for all of Britain's extensive railway network are available from National Rail Enquires, telephone 0845 7484950.

Train ticket prices vary greatly. If you intend to travel regularly by rail you should think about buying a monthly or annual season ticket'. You may be able to benefit from reduced fares if you book at least two weeks in advance.

Buses
Local bus routes in Britain are run by various private companies. For all local travel information, call the National Travel Line on 0870 608 2608.

Light railway and tram
Several UK cities operate light railway and tram systems. These include Manchester Metrolink, Midland Metro and Supertram Sheffield as well as the Docklands Light Railway in London. Call the National Travel Line (0870 608 2608) for information.

Underground trains
The largest underground railway in Britain is London's Tube network with 287 stations serving 19 million passengers each day.

Transport for London provides information on the Tube and all the capital's public transport, including buses and river services.

Glasgow and Newcastle-upon-Tyne also have small subway systems.

Coach
Taking a coach is a reasonably-priced option for travelling from city to city. National Express runs the largest scheduled coaching company with more than 1,200 destinations.

Aeroplane
The plane is an affordable and fast way of travelling around the country, you'll find an airport in most major UK cities.

Car
People with European Community/European Economic Area issued licences are usually entitled to drive here until their licences expire.

Those with licences issued elsewhere are usually entitled to drive here for 12 months, after which they have to obtain a GB licence.

All cars have to be registered with the DVLA, taxed, insured and have MOT certificates if required. Motorways in Britain are mostly toll free, but you pay to use certain bridges and tunnels.
