| Travelling To | There are several international airports in Portugal. They are in Lisbon, Oporto, Faro, Funchal (Madeira) Pomta Delgada (S.Miguel, Azores) and Lajes (Iiha Terceira, Azores). |
| Travelling In | Rail The mostly state-owned Portuguese railway system connects much of the country. Fares are reasonably priced and service fast, reliable and comfortable. Coach There is also a national coach network, the Rodoviaria Nacional (RN), as well as private operators. They offer fast, non-stop services on popular routes and some destinations not covered by rail. Metro and trams Lisbon and Oporto are well services by trams and Lisbon also has a Metro system which runs from 0600 until 0100. Taxi Taxis are plentiful and charge according to a meter. Car hire Car hire is readily available. You'll need proof of identity and a valid current Driving Licence. There's a minimum age for hiring a car of 21, higher for some companies. Make sure all documents relating to the hired vehicle are always on hand as Portuguese traffic police make spot-checks. Driving is on the right. |
