20 years committed to football with Barclays

From the Premier League to the Barclays Women’s Super League, we’re proud to have been on a 20-year journey with football. And nothing captures our commitment like the rise of football stars Reece and Lauren James, who grew up watching the Barclays Premier League…

Celebrating 20 years of football and it's still all to play for

From Fergie to Fàbregas, Shearer to Salah, we’ve been here to witness some of the most iconic sporting moments during our two decades supporting English football.

It started with our sponsorship of the Barclaycard Premiership in 2001, and what followed was an incredible era for the sport. Together we witnessed a fresh-faced Rooney debut for Everton at 16, we saw underdogs Leicester make club history and who could forget ‘that’ "Agueroooo" goal.

Over those 20 seasons, the Premier League has never failed to keep us entertained. During that time, we’ve given away thousands of tickets to games, have brought the Premier League to life for fans across the world, and, supported communities through our Barclays Premier League Works, Spaces for Sport and LifeSkills programs. We are now the Official Banking Partner of the Premier League, providing our expertise and financial services right across the football industry.

But that was just the start.

In 2019 we became the title sponsor of the Barclays FA Women’s Super League, making the biggest investment into elite women’s sport the UK has ever seen. It marked the dawn of a new era, with Europe’s first fully professional women’s league. What followed was recording breaking crowds, transfer fees and broadcast figures. From Kelly to Kerr, Miedema to Mannion, we’ve seen the league transform the game forever.

But we’re not done yet.

We’re also committed to football's future.. We’ve made a commitment, in partnership with The FA, to make sure all girls in England have equal access to football in schools by 2024, because football is everyone’s game.

For 20 years Barclays has been committed to football, and it's still all to play for.
